In the master's thesis, we analysed the playing types and the defence of the national teams at the women's European U16 Division B championship. We analysed four matches of the Slovenian national team against the national teams of Serbia, Great Britain, Norway, and Portugal. We collected the data with the help of videos and game statistics on the official website of the championship.
We compared the set zonal and set personal defences of the Slovenian national team in more detail. We were interested in the time share and the number of zonal and personal defences of the Slovenian national team and opposing national teams. We compared the efficiency of the Slovenian national team's defences through the following indicators: the number of baskets received, the number of rebounds in defence, the number of steals, the number of rebounds in the opposing team's offense, and the performance of opposing national teams in throwing two and three points. We also analysed the time share and the number of transitional zone defences of the Slovenian national team in comparison with the opposing national teams and comparison with the set zone defence of the Slovenian national team. We were also interested in the absolute and relative index of the defence efficiency of the team of each defence.
We found that the Slovenian national team played the zone defence less time than the personal defence, but more time than the opposing teams. During the time of playing zone defence, the Slovenian national team, compared to personal defence per minute of play, is on average: received fewer baskets, had more rebounds in defence and more steals. The opposing teams had fewer offensive rebounds in the set zone defence and a better percentage for throwing for two and three points. The indices of absolute and relative defence efficiency of the team were also higher.
