This era, known also as the Roaring twenties, is an era of economic, social and political changes which were a consequence of the First World War. This paper is divided into three major parts. The first part is a presentation of the Roaring twenties and the changes that happened during the decade. The second and the third part are a description of the Slovenian settlement in the two cities before the Roaring twenties and then is presented the impact that the decade had over Slovenes who lived in these settlements. The first part is based on the book 1920: the year that made the decade roar by Eric Burns. The second and the third part are the result of observation and analysis of the information gathered from main sources of this work, the Slovenian newspapers that were published in Chicago and Cleveland; Amerikanski Slovenec, Edinost, Ameriška domovina and Nova doba.
