This master's thesis focuses on the topic of music as a medium of education. It focuses on the attitude of preschool teachers towards the importance of music for children's holistic development, and endeavours to define if and how these attitudes affect their professional work in the process of preschool education, in more detail their music activities. Since music is an important form of art, the master's thesis firstly centers on the concept of education through the arts, on the importance of art and music for individual holistic development, and on the researches, which were already carried out attempting to prove the positive importance of music on individual development and their shortcomings. Furthermore the Kindergarten Curriculum (1999) is presented, within which the master’s thesis approaches the position of the arts in the preschool education, different forms of art application that are involved in the process of pre-school education and its aims. Afterwards the master's thesis focuses on the reality of the implementation of the educational process in the field of preschool education, the presence and goals of music activities, which depends primarily on the opinions of preschool teachers. The empiric part of this master’s thesis presents the attitudes of preschool teacher towards the educational values of music and the analysis of their music activities. On the basis of obtained empirical data, the conclusions are made, whether or not the attitudes of educators on the educational value of music affect their professional work in the field of music education.
