Romanticism created a special philosophy of nature, which was best echoed and expressed in Schelling's philosophy. The article addresses the role and meaning of nature; in particular, the Alpine area in Prešeren's Baptism on the Savica in the light of Romantic aesthetics and philosophy. Romantic symbols connected with nature help present the main character's internal experience. At the same time they are based on an environment well known to Slovenian readers and that they can identify with.
