This article presents ideology as something that is always present in language and culture. Ideology as a system of rules, convictions, and, not least of all, prejudices, can be understood as a necessary segment, as a changing platform of any culture, the dynamic nature of which is subject to transformations. This article presents the meaning and role of ideology in the case of playwriting in Trieste. Unpublished plays by the playwright Josip Tavčar are used to present the authorʼs reflections on the ideological experience in Trieste in the monologue Dileme (Dilemmas).
