Changing workplace is an absolute emotional roller coaster, therefore a well organised onboarding process is fundamental for fruitful assimilation into a new work environment. The core purpose of the Master’s thesis is to get an insight into companies’ awareness of the importance of employee onboarding. The results have been obtained by conducting fifteen interviews with human resources (HR) managers and heads of units of ten companies. The empirical part mainly focuses on the implementation of the onboarding program, on required collaboration between HR departments and heads of units and on how well-executed onboarding impacts employee performance. A thesis also addresses the offboarding process. The results indicate a quite high level of companies’ consciousness about the importance of the onboarding process, yet the level may vary from one company to another, which is reflected in performance management. The results show a different story when it comes to the offboarding process. The majority does not pay special attention to implement an offboarding program in a systematic way. Generally speaking, companies tend to execute it by chance. In the light of constant learning the possible improvements are visible, in particular for the offboarding program.
