The author presents writers of the younger generation of Slovenes in Italy and their choice of language code when writing literary works and the attitude they express towards the value of language. Among Slovenes in Italy, as well as among their neighbours in Austria, there is a tendency for some to alternately choose to write in Slovene and/or in the language of the majority, although the youngest authors notice a halt to, if not the retreat of this phenomenon. As well as the issue of language, another feature stands out in Slovene literature in Italy: i.e., the spatial markedness, which is a predominant motif of the youngest generation.
