Nowadays, you can create groups on Facebook in which members can share their knowledge, advice, post messages, images, etc. In this bachelor's thesis I focus on those support groups in which members engage in sports, and on how participating in Facebook support groups affects the motivation for sports activities. There are several types of motivation but I am researching the effect on internal and external motivation for sports activities. With a web survey I collected the data of 116 respondents. The results of the t-test show that there is no significant difference between those members who have already posted a message in the group and those members who have not yet posted a message in the group as regards external motivation and internal motivation. Additionally, I checked the effects of some factors on external and internal motivation for sports activities. With regression analysis I came to the conclusion that only emotional connection with the Facebook support group has a significant effect on external motivation for sports activities, while only the frequency of visits to the support group has a significant effect on internal motivation for sports activities.
