During the production process of polymer filaments, it is necessary to manipulate the filaments to start the winding machines and to change the winding bobbin. Compressed air suction guns are used in the industry for this purpose. Due to large losses in the preparation of compressed air, a vacuum suction prototype was developed. In the thesis, we improved and measured the suction characteristics. We determined the operating points of the suction guns and simulated the airflow in each nozzle. We measured the tension force of the thread at the measuring station. An improved vacuum suction prototype with a vacuum suction gun saves more than half the energy to achieve a comparable tension force than a compressed air suction gun. At the same time, the vacuum suction nozzle does not generate knots on the threads and thus does not reach the required force to tear filaments away from the bobbin.
