The thesis discusses semantic prosody in selected phrases of Slovene language. The purpose of the work is to research the (somewhat) unanticipated semantic relations and functions of discourse that stem from this phenomena and span into concrete communication. The first part reviews the theoretical framework of the research (corpus lingustics, features of semantic prosody, cognitive linguistics, Slovene and foreign research works in this field of study) and the chosen methodology (select word combinations, corpora used, the Sketch Engine software). In the second part we analyse our selected word combinations, discuss the obtained results, and offer thoughts on possible future application of findings from this domain. Results show that the majority of selected word combinations predominantly comprises of the negative evaluative meaning, how the evaluative meaning of the majority of selected word combinations does not stretch over the entire spectrum (negative, positive, neutral) of meaning, while the colligation pattern reveals how the selected word combinations are prevalent in the central position within the sentence.
