Nowadays, industrial processes are developed to a level where most of the more demanding tasks are performed by machines, which reduces the likelihood of human error. Nevertheless, machines have to be operated by a human, for tasks such as changing products, testing subassemblies and pressing the start button. The safety of workers is the main priority in any company, which is why the safety of production machinery has to be ensured through testing first. One of such tests is the high voltage test for testing the breakdown voltage of a machine’s insulator. The assessment can be performed with a high voltage adapter, which is presented in this master's thesis. The high voltage adapter is a part of an instrument for testing industrial machinery, which is capable of generating up to 5100 V RMS of AC voltage at a power of 500 W. When testing the breakdown strength of an industrial machine, the result of the measurement is evaluated as a fail in the event of an electrical breakdown. This is followed by the voltage just before the breakdown and the value of the electric current at the breakdown being displayed. Otherwise the measurement is evaluated as a pass. This proves the industrial device is safe to use.
