Thesis describes a development of the system for magazine detecting with near field communication technology. System is integrated into the interior of the gun, which represents a simulator of the real gun and is used for military practical training of firing practice. In addition to the magazine detection, the system also detects sensors in the interior of the gun, which are used to supervise soldiers´ maneuvering the gun. It also contains a serial communication interface (universal asynchronous transmitter-receiver, UART), which is used for communication with the computer on which a developed MS Windows application is running.
System is based on the ST25R3911B [1] integrated circuit and STM32F303CB [2] microcontroller, manufactured by STMicroelectronics [3]. There is located NFC tag type NFC-V (Mave, d.o.o., Ljubljana [4]) based on the standard ISO 15693 [5] on the top of the gun magazine. Its size is 15 mm x 30 mm and it has the ability to communicate on the distance of three centimeters. It is the smallest NFC tag the company can provide. The communication distance can be extended to the distance of six centimeters when using the bigger NFC tag size.
We have developed the printed circuit board for communication with the NFC tags and gun maneuvering detection. Microcontroller program code has been written with the C programming language. User application for system control and supervision runs under MS Windows operating system. It has been developed with the C# programming language in the Microsoft Visual Studio [6] development environment. The developed system has been tested and evaluated, with what we have verified the compliance with the customers’ requirements.
