In my thesis, I researched different types of kinematics of full suspension bicycle frames, materials involved and manufacturing processes . After reviewing bicycles history background and current trends I tried to make an improvement on at least one of the previously mentioned areas. My goal was to design fully functioning frame for its purpose of comfortable riding downhill. Its form had to comply from the perspective of geometry, suspension kinematics, shape and foreseen parts compatibility. Research has shown an option of using an alternative material in mountain biking, that being steel. Due to its mechanical properties it allows the rider to be more stable, safe, have more control and confidence in his downhill descents. Through development of a prototype I could test these material qualities which proved to have a positive effect on riding.
