The diploma thesis deals with an artwork, a painting on canvas by painter Anton Cej, dated back in 1890, which, according to the recognized motive and related similar representations of other authors, we named as Stigmatization of St. Francis. In the introduction we explain the iconographic background of the painting and give some general information about its author, further on we describe the condition of the artwork before our conservation-restoration treatment. The main and most urgent damages are cracks across the entire surface of the painting and the peeling and decaying of the picture layer. In the theoretical part we explain two main essential processes we used throughout our work: facing and consolidation, which later leads us to the practical part of the thesis where we explain the course of our work, which is problematized and critically evaluated in the final discussion.
