The thesis will theoretically explore and empirically illuminate the »ideology of (liquid) fear«, one of the main features of the modern »liquid modern« (Bauman, 2002, p. 154), embedded in the (hyperconsumer) capitalist system. The latter increasingly employs the life paths of (highly) individualized, fragmented-flexible individuals of the 21st century.
The ideology of a socially constructed »liquid fear« (ibid, p. 21) stems from an individual's uncertainty about his or her further life course, but generates feelings of anxiety and vulnerability that are major indicators of the fear in question.
The sociological view is the one that will try to see the socially constructed origin, character and purpose of fear and its hidden assortment of a predominantly ideological nature, which creates and strengthens the mechanism of manipulative control.
The empirical part of the diploma thesis, with the help of a focus group of young people (between 19 and 30 years of age), indicates how a selected sample of the student population in Slovenia recognizes and perceives the dynamics of a highly modern ideology of fear, or the areas of their daily lives that are most affected by this ideology.
