The main goal of this master's thesis was to make a harmonic mixer for frequencies between 76GHz and 81GHz with a microstrip patch antenna. Firstly, I describe the basic concepts of mixers. In following chapters, I discuss the theory of frequency mixing and frequency multiplication with a single diode and an antiparallel diode pair. Following that is a chapter on the practical implementation of frequency mixers and frequency multipliers. This chapter is divided into a basic explanation of schemes of circuits surrounding diodes, into a study of a learning example of frequency mixer and a frequency multiplier at lower frequencies, into frequency mixer design for frequencies from 76GHz to 81GHz and into a frequency multiplier design at 33.9GHz. Next chapter describes circuits and measurements of a harmonic mixer for frequencies between 76GHz and 81GHz with a microstrip patch antenna. At the end, there is a description of the design and measurement of a PLL signal synthesizer for the 33.9GHz local oscillator.
