Abstract

Title:Implementation and evaluation of the experiment to illustrate the process of photosynthesis within the elective subject Organisms in natural and artificial environment
Abstract:
The learning and teaching of the photosynthesis process is one of the most challenging scientific topics, especially because of its complexity. Often problems arise in a holistic understanding of the photosynthesis process, mainly due to misconceptions and false simplifications. Understanding the photosynthesis process can be difficult for students, as it is difficult to imagine how the process itself works, as they cannot see it physically. With the master thesis we wanted to introduce the students to the process of photosynthesis in an interesting, inovative and understandable way. With the help of the experiment we wanted to introduce the students to the process of photosynthesis, the experimental work, the scientific thinking and what happens during the process of photosynthesis with the plant or the concentrations of the gasses released and consumed during it. We wanted to arouse the students' interest in experimental work and encourage their research thinking. Together with a group of seventh graders we will carry out the given experiment in the elective subject Organisms in the natural and artificial environment. By conducting this experiment at school, we wanted to encourage active participation in science and biology lessons and to demonstrate the role and benefits of research work in students' understanding of challenging learning content. In order for students to develop experimental and research skills, they need to be actively involved in experimentation and research and not just observe the teacher's demonstration (Elementary School Program. Biology. Curriculum, 2011). We found that the students understood the process of photosynthesis through an experiment and developed their scientific skills. Through this form of work their interest in science has also increased.
