The diploma thesis describes the technical aspects of the production of stop motion animated
film. The aim of the project was to create a trailer for the stop motion animated film The mask.
The first part of the thesis introduces basic principles of animation and stop motion technique.
Then we continue with description of the scene preparation, which includes the preparation of
the lights. To eliminate shadows and achieve uniform illumination we have used multiple lights
and light direction and softening devices. We used light temperature to set the atmosphere of
the scene and we solved the flicker problem with a LED-type light bulb. We operated the
camera using manual controls to achieve desired image quality. We operated the camera
directly with the Dragonframe software, and we used the DaVinci Resolve software for the
entire post-production. The diploma work resulted in the finalized trailer of an animation film.
