Among other changes that the period of late modernity has brought, is also the changed conceptualization and understanding of intimacy, intimate relationships and their formation. One of the new ways of meeting potential partners – online dating on different websites, has gotten a new form – dating apps, that have gained on popularity in the last few years, Tinder being one of the most recognized ones. In the master thesis I will be interested in how the above mentioned changes are reflected in Tinder, in its users and the relationships users have formed with its help. The method used will be a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods – an online survey to obtain a general picture of Tinder users, and half structured interviews with users that have successfully entered in a relationship with Tinder's help. In the thesis I come to the conclusion that although Tinder and similar apps may further reproduce week ties, commodification and hook-up culture, they can also represent a solution for people, who have trouble forming intimate relationships in traditional ways, especially in a society characterized by long working hours, individualization and small social circles.
