The purpose of the study was to analyze suitable areas for CTL technology in regional forest management region Celje. Limiting factors were determined based on other literature and field observation of cut-to length operation. We decided on the following limiting factors: slope of the terrain, surface shape, share of conifers in growing stock, bearing capacity of the soil and tree diameter. Using the AHP method we assigned those factors importance (weight) and limit values. Using the method of Multi-Criteria Evaluation (MCE) in the Arcmap program, we created a suitability map of areas suitable for the use of CTL at section level. The model was finished with validation that was carried out by the district foresters who assessed the suitability of the sections obtained on the suitability map for their district. We analyzed the suitability map which showed that 12% of the forest area of the sections in FMR Celje are very suitable for CTL. Five districts were validated by the district foresters. A total of 1491 sections were assessed (just under a third of the sections in FMR Celje). Out of very suitable for CTL sections 54,4% of sections were assesed as suitable for the CTL technology and out of medium suitable sections only 26,2%. The model has proven to be successful and will help planning at Slovenia forest service. In the future it would make sense to make a map of suitability at the level of forest stands with adjusted criterias.
