Bachelor thesis Designing the Fusion Collection represents the process of designing a womenswear collection by intertwining shirt, tracksuit and swimwear and menswear collection by upcycling already owned pieces of clothing. Both collections were designed by combining clothes of different purposes to create new clothing.
In the theoretical part of our thesis we researched Slovenian textile industry, its history, development and the its current state. Sixties fashion and Paco Rabanne, one of the most prominent designers of the era, were the main inspiration for forms, details and textures of the collection. We were interested in how their influence is shown in contemporary fashion and design. We also researched three key elements in designing our collection - shirt, tracksuit and swimsuit. Using defective merchandise, residue fabric and old clothing we wanted to express the importance of sustainability and acting locally.
In the experimental part we designed womenswear by interlacing shirt, tracksuit and swimwear elements. We made different circular textures inspired by the works of Paco Rabanne and the use of primary objects in his designs. We continued our research and work by designing menswear with mixing shirt, tracksuit and men suit with upcycling some of the pieces.
The result of our thesis are contemporary womenswear and menswear collections. They are based in sixties fashion and collage designing principals with using key elements from elementary garments.
