Augmented Reality technologies have constantly been progressing, therefore offering opportunities in various fields. One of them being tourism. Using Augmented Reality technologies on mobile devices or smart tablets can enrich individual locations with computer-generated content. Augmenting these locations can improve the tourists experience and make locations even more appealing.
This diploma thesis includes the research of existing augmented reality applications in the field of tourism and introduces the development of a tourism app. The theoretical part provides an overview of the history of augmented reality technologies and the tools needed for developing these applications, a breakdown of different types of applications and key fields of use. Prior to the development of the application, an overview of the existing augmented reality applications and their advantages and disadvantages was made. Initially, a plan for user interface, a content plan and a detailed overview of several augmented reality tools for native and web applications was made. Based on research, the technology needed for developing an app in this diploma thesis was determined, namely AR.js library in combination with A-Frame technology. The practical part includes a description of the application development process and presents the findings about the final product.
