The connection between video and music is completely self-evident in the 21st century. Music videos bring the viewer and listener a melodical experience and an intense feeling of the song itself. They allow their makers to express in boundless creative ways. By connecting music videos with 360° technology we can immerse the viewer deeper into the scene. A very important part of 360° technology is the plot line. The story has to be adapted to fit this new style of filming. Finding new ways to tell, plan and produce the story, different from the old classic music videos is also the cause for the development 360° technology. VR is a rapidly developing area nowadays and as a alternate reality media that can bring the experience of music videos to a whole new level. One of the parts of VR is 360° video, that immerses the viewer into the virtual world with the possibility of watching the surroundings on all sides of the globe.
The main purpose of this final thesis is to make a music video that is different, unique, recognisable and overall a statement piece. Besides that the intent was to highlight the transition from the passive music video watching to this whole active experience, interaction, exploration. In this thesis I developed and realized the idea of connecting the traditional music videos, 360° videos and VR. I set out to establish a new way of expressing through media in this digital world by connecting the three already mentioned technologies and to shape a new media. With a mix of all the techniques, I made a product with a significant message. In the first chapters of this thesis I shortly explain the 360° video technology, VR and normal music videos and point out their differences, how they work, etc. The theory is later further detailed with a presentation of the technologies, approaches and tools used for the practical part. The experimental part concludes a description of all the phases of video production from start to finish. It clearly states all the exact steps, from generating ideas, the course of production and the final montage all to the release of the video, that were needed to conclude this project. The final result of this thesis is a visually and technologically perfected 360° music video. The results of the experimental part are critically graded and analysed in the discussion. Lastly stated are options and suggestions for further improvements and in the conclusion a summary of the whole production and the whole project work.
