Health, together with diet and fitness activities connected to it, has in recent times become a social norm we all have to follow. This is also reflected on social networks that have taken on an important role in society in the last decade and at the same time offer users a new space for self-presentation. The virtual identities users form in the process are often idealised, which can become a problem, especially when we consider the influence that shared content has on other users and their mental health. The goal of this diploma thesis is to explore how female users of Instagram understand content related to a healthy lifestyle and diet and how they connect such images with the thin body ideal. I will focus on the problem of thin body regulation connected to a healthy lifestyle. Through an interview as a qualitative research method I will try to answer the questions raised and gain insight into understanding a healthy lifestyle and its problematisation through the eyes of female Instagram users.
