The thesis describes an implementation of an IRIG-B decoder. IRIG-B is a
commonly used time synchronization protocol. The decoder will be fitted to a
device called PMU (Phasor Measurement Unit), used to assess the state of the
power grid. The significance of the PMU is explained and also the importance
of time synchronization for its working. The results of the evaluation of the
constructed decoder is presented. The decoder performs well at decoding the
input signal and with the use of several implemented error checking mechanisms
does not provide an incorrect data. There is however, too large of a delay present
in the output signal compared to the trigger signal.
