The thesis in the theoretical part is focused on the publicity function of the Slovene literary language. Major Slovenian researchers have established within this function genre a subgenre which they named the reporting subgenre, because it is implemented through reporting activity. This activity appears in the texts as a reporting style, characterized by the time pressure because due to the daily publication and the fact that the journalists report about events they were not directly a part of. Furthermore, in the thesis are explained the types of references on the basis of these two features of the daily papers, and more precisely presents the citation references, within which they also explain the direct speech, the semi-direct speech, and the dependent speech. In the empirical part of the thesis is explained the analyzed material, justifies the so called double or hybrid citation referencing, which is a type of citation reference in which two types of reference referring to the same doer are linked in a related or alternative way. In the first part is always direct speech that is related to subordinal clauses, citation, or the adjective that introduces dependent speech/ subordinal speech or citation. Verb analysis showed that verbs are always used, and the most commonly used verbs are to say, tell and add / add. The master's thesis thus supplements the treatment of reported speech in the Slovene language and examples of the direct speech in so called double citation references as subordinate rather than related clauses, as they have been discussed in Slovenian grammar so far.
