Abstract

Title:Attachment theory in correlation with criminology
Abstract:
Psychological background of criminal behaviour has already been discussed. Attachment theory seems to be another possible explanation with which a criminal can be understood. From the theoretical perspective, the Master's thesis discusses the attachment theory and continues with in-depth criminological treatment of risk factors that can potentially lead to crime. Attachment theory explains how people connect to other people through life. At birth child starts to attach to his primary caregivers. It is in the light of these experiences that the individual draws a unique view of the world and an aspect of whether or not the world is safe. The quality of relationship in his life thus significantly influences the development of emotional regulation and empathy. The thesis addresses the question to what extent the described quality of relationships in combination with various risk factors explains the subsequent occurrence of criminality in an individual. The concluding part looks at different risk factory and the genesis of attachment style in two specific cases. It discusses life circumstances and wonders what were the possible elements that plunged an individual into repulsive behaviour and then into criminality.
