Introduction: Natural and other disasters threaten physical, social and mental health. Accidents, which account for a large number of injuries, also affect health care system. Health care system must be organized differently than under normal conditions. Purpose: To find out the action and cooperation of emergency medical service and forces of protection and rescue in cases of natural and other disasters in Slovenia. Objective: Describe the types and causes of natural and other disasters that threaten the population, the elaboration and content of plans for forces of protection and rescue and emergency medical services in cases of natural and other disasters in Slovenia, describe the activities of emergency medical service at the pre-hospital level and describe the cooperation of emergency medical services with the forces of protection and rescue. Methods: We used a descriptive method with critical review of professional literature. The literature was searched in data bases CINAHL, Medline / PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cobib.Si, Google Scholar databases, through the digital library DiKul, and on the websites of Department of Defense and Department of Health. 7 keywords were used in the search of literature: emergency medical service, incident, natural disasters, chemical disasters, fire department, police department, helicopter rescue. In the end we used 40 units of literature. Results: Emergency medical service at the hospital level is divided into emergency activities before arrival at the accident site, the arrival at the accident site, the organization and operation of the on-site service and the transport of the injured. In case of natural and other disasters, depending on the type of disaster, fire department, police, army, mountain, cave and underwater rescue teams, kennel club, Red Cross of Slovenia and units of Civil protection join the rescue. Discussion and conlusion: In order to improve the functioning of the system in the future, we have to increase training and training activities, provide equipment for all units, conduct regular mass casualty exercises and analysis and regular threat assessments. Plans will be effective, emergency sevices and forces of protection and rescue will be prepared and will, with mutual cooperation, coordination and resolution, provide the best possible care for the victims of the disasters.
