Introduction: Research shows that physical inactivity in health care professionals ranges from 34,8% to 87,8%, depending on their workplace. Inactivity among health care professionals is of concern because they are in positions where they should promote a healthy lifestyle among the population. Leisure time physical activity increases the ability to improve physical performance during work and more physical activity they have, the more positive effect it has on work ability. Purpose: The purpose is to learn about and explore how to spend leisure time among healthcare professionals. The aim is to get acquainted with the importance of active leisure and healthy lifestyles, the impact of active lifestyles on health, the importance of active lifestyles for the work of health professionals, and to investigate how healthcare personnel spend leisure time. Methods: We used a descriptive research method of working with a review of the professional and scientific literature that we sought through remote access, the DiKUL digital library, in international databases. The literature review was conducted between March 2019 and September 2019. We searched for articles using keywords and phrases. Results: Research has shown that increasing the level of physical activity of employees improves their work capacity. Which means that by participating in the physical activities of employees, we can anticipate their working ability in the future and improve it by promoting leisure activities. Discussion and conclusion: Regular participation in physical activity is associated with many health benefits, including markedly reduced morbidity for chronic illnesses and premature mortality. It is important for health care professionals to be aware that we are also affecting patients. When we feel good in our bodies, both physically and mentally, we can more easily establish a positive attitude towards patients.
