Nowadays, 3D graphics are used everywhere around us – used in the movie, medicine, fashion, architecture, video games. The creation of a highly realistic 3D model to use in a film, is in principle the same as creating a 3D model for a lower quality video game, the main difference is the amount of detail needed for one and the other. Both start with the creation of a concept and end with a rendered picture.
The point of this thesis is to learn to use Autodesk Maya in unison with the V-Ray render to create a semi-realistic virtual 3D room with camera movements that showcases the harder, more refined elements of the project.
The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the working of the program used to create the project – Autodesk Maya. It also briefly explains the plug-in V-Ray and the basic workflow needed to create a project from start to finish, starting with modeling and finishing with the post-production of the final video.
The experimental part focuses on the creation of different parts of the project from modeling the bed and books, to creating the UV maps and materials. It will also contain the creation and animation of the cameras, as well as what was needed to create the final render results and the process required in the post-production.
The result of this thesis will be a video presentation of the room and an analysis of problems which occurred during the making process of the room and ways to avoid them in the future.
