The main focus of this master's thesis is the analysis of school counseling in Slovenia and in Spain and its comparison. The first part of this thesis is devoted to the definition of school counseling, which is followed by the description of school counseling in Slovenia and in Spain and as well in Castile and Leon. The empirical part of the thesis compares both systems of school counseling. The main goal of our research was to compare the system of school counseling in Slovenia and in Castile and Leon, comparing its organization within the framework ISCED 0, 1, 2 and 3, comparing its legally binding acts and other technical documents, the schooling and the role of the school counselor, the scope of actions and the principles of the school counseling. The document analysis showed some differences and similarities between the two countries. In both countries the system of school counseling has seen a rapid growth in the second half of the 20th Century. The main difference is in the organization of school counseling, which in Slovenia forms an integral part of the education system, whereas in Spain school counselors can work within the schools or in specialized external institutions. The two systems are based on team and interdisciplinary work. Also they have similar tasks, principles and they both stress the importance of school counseling for quality education.
