The graduation thesis discusses the equipment and qualification of the private forest owners on the Ptuj forest management unit. For this area small and fragmented forest property is typical, its average size is far below the Slovenian average. Analysis was conducted using survey of private forest owners. It has shown that forest owners are well equipped with basic personal protective equipment, especially with chainsaw protective pants and appropriate protection boots. Most of forest owners are still self-taught or have acquired knowledge from the relatives. Forest owners generally do not trust companies, which could work for forest owners by payment. Forest owners are willing to work in the forest in tough conditions even after natural disasters (wind storms, ice storms%). Equipment and qualification of private forest owners increases by the size of the forest property. Owners, who make their living from the forest, dedicated a lot more time for education and training. Some forest owners are still not fully aware of the danger facing at work in the forest. It would be necessary to increase the level of education and training of private forest owners.
