Master’s thesis deals with electrical conditions on overhead transmission line when energizing and at the moment of atmospherically discharge.
Master’s degree comprises modeling of long overhead transmission line. Ferranti’s effect, parallel shunt reactor compensation, effect of zero missing crossing and impact of moment of energizing on switching over voltages are described. Voltage travelling waves are shown when lightning strikes the phase conductor in different time sections. Also surge arresters are included in the simulation. Impact of zero capacitance on transmission line is represented. Different scenarios for energizing and lightning strike in phase conductor are simulated.
Results indicate that shunt reactor compensation solves problem of Ferranti effect, but at the same time zero missing crossing is caused. Surge arresters response well at lightning over voltages.
