In the master thesis we studied the conceptual metaphors we have found in french poetry. Our thesis addresses the general issues of metaphor theory and even beyond, issues of rhetoric, cognition and art. The theoretical part presents studies that have served us as a theoretical framework within which we propose some examples of conceptual metaphors in French poems in the second section. The second part analyzes the poetic metaphors of happiness, unhappiness, life, death and time. From the analyses of the examples we have been able to identify the general concepts common to some of the metaphors mentioned above, and these metaphors are presumably closely linked not only to our sensory and motor perception of the world around us but also to the ability to compare and create similarities as well.
