In my master's thesis, I will present the development of media and payment practices from the first human civilizations to the present day. I will also describe in more detail the emergence and development of the Internet and cryptocurrency while outlining the important processes of media and digitization. The aim of the master's thesis is to find out whether there are correlations between media development and payment practices that have a profound impact on our daily lives. I will also comment further on both topics being, media development as a key contributor to the creation and modification of payment practices over time and, that cryprocurrencies are a novelty where users can quickly earn or lose money while being a potential currency, that in some places already supersedes current payment methods. Through interviews conducted with cryptocurrency users, I will present their practices and viewpoints, as well as their perspective on cryprocurrency and technology development in the future. In the final section, key findings will be highlighted, such as that the development of media and payment practices being closely linked, that cryptocurrencies are still an unexplored area with great potential, yet they will not take the place of the currently existing fiat currencies and will not become a standard payment practice.
