This paper presents a phonological description of the local dialect of Števerjan/San Floriano del Collio (Province of Gorizia, Autonomous region Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy) of the Brda (Brda/Collio) dialect of Slovenian. This description presents the local dialect from the diachronic and the synchronic points of view: the descriptive-linguistic perspective presents the inventory and the distribution of vowel, consonant and accent sistem, while the historical-linguistic perspective determines the origin of single elements in order to place the described phonological system in the wider context of Slovenian and other Slavic languages.
