In my diploma thesis I research schoolbags, giving special emphasis on their weight and arrangement that so far have not been researched enough. Children’s schoolbags are way too heavy which may lead to serious health problems in the years to come, such as lower back pain, pain in the neck or even spinal deformation. However, this is not a problem that children face only in the schoolyears, but may recur in the future, too.
Therefore, my diploma thesis is focused on the back of the schoolbags as well as on materials, the way content is stored and children’s longing for a more comfortable and lighter way to school.
At present, there are two types of schoolbags available on the market. The first one is for the first three grades and the second one for the rest. These feature the already known solutions of hiking, bicycle and camera backpacks which are not usefully applied in schoolbags as they do not guarantee support for the lumbar part, aeration of the back of the backpacks as well as the arrangement of the inner space. Based on the market research and analysis of material, my diploma thesis is therefore focused on the system of arrangement of content, opening system, ergonomic design of the back and hold. The findings of the analysis, sketches and models gave rise to a backpack that is light, spacious, transparent and ergonomic.
