Abstract

Title:When you choose a choice: Experience of Tinder users in Slovenia
Abstract:
In today's world, when applications on mobile phones are counting our steps, we are constantly being followed through gps connections and we always have news in our hands, it is to be expected that our social and intimate life will be introduced into this system of network as well. We are increasingly striving for instant or quick solutions. Freedom is also increasingly perceived as a core value, which is reflected in our relationships. Consumption interferes with the emotional realm and gives us countless choices. Our wishes and expectations are shaped through a construct formed by society about contemporary relationships. New technology also contributes to this, with dating and dating apps taking a special place. In my diploma I present the connection between the consumerist view of love and the social expectations of young people in Slovenia. Due to the popularity of the online dating app Tinder, the thesis presents its use among young people, especially among heterosexually oriented individuals. It is popular for its ease of use, but the experience I analyzed shows that collaboration on the app works like an endless game. Many also refer to it as the “Tinder Lottery,” since its use produces very diverse effects on the intimate and love lives of its users. Not only does the search for love through its use turn into play, so do relationships that allow for greater or at least apparent freedom and individualization. Despite the belief that apps are part of modernity and radically alter traditional gender social roles, the presentations and usage still show some gender-specific expectations that are associated with cognition and sexuality.
