This master's thesis is about creating modern women's clothes collection, which is based on some aspects of history and ethnology. It is focused on the looks of clothing of different cultures from Africa and America. It also includes detailed reasearch and analysis of history of women's clothing from 1950's fashion. The most important fashion designers of that time are presented.
The collection interwienes different cultural and fashion influences into an integral whole and designs a multicultural identity. The concept of multiculturality is about the co-existence of several cultures in one environment, where the union of different ethnical and geographical origins exists.
The influence of ethnology can be seen in fashion through the whole 20th cenutry. Many times, ethnical inspiration originates from colours, patterns, shapes and symbols. Today, it is known as one of the options for combining different styles.
The experimental part of the dissertation explanes the evolution and procedures of designing from the inspiration and the first idea to the final products. There are seven different looks in this collection. They symbolise the research of the details. There are many different techniques used during the making of the clothes: printing, which includes transfering folk symbols, combining of different materials, knotting, tying, braiding, the introduction of technical elements (metal). There is also an emphasis on the functionality. The initial attempts of collage making, the evolution of details, their upgrade on the mannequin and the final silhuette of the products are also presented in the dissertation. The final silhuette is the reflection of the experiment, whose main foundation is not only inspiration, but also the transfer of trying out differeng techniques through the experimetal method.
