This paper, titled Experimental Fashion Collection with Inspiration in Sport, presents the development and realization of a women's collection that takes inspiration in sport, more specifically, in sailing.
The theoretical part defines experimentalism in fashion; what experimental actually means, when it emerged in the fashion world, who the pioneers in this field were and how it influences contemporary fashion. I focused especially on the avantgarde fashion and conceptual design as they were both key elements in the creation and persistence of experimental fashion.
In the empirical part, I designed a women's experimental collection with inspiration in sailing. By collaging the shapes of sails, accessories for sailing and details of the clothes themselves, I designed new silhouettes. Lifejackets and their volume were incorporated in my pieces of clothing. Instead of ropes, anchorage straps were used for tightening; consequently, new shapes were created. Among others, I was inspired by the artist Arman and his work Home Sweet Home II, which is reflected in the collection with the use of several layers and a successive application of tubes. Both sources of inspiration, sport and art, posed a challenge: how to incorporate them in my clothes to appear proportionate, to complement one another and to seem contemporary.
The result of the paper is a women's experimental collection whose silhouettes and details reflect contemporaneity and technical sophistication.
