In this thesis, the development of a poster throughout history, which is the main means of communication in our society, is presented. Over the course of history , various types of posters have been developed, such as advertising, propaganda and art posters. Furthermore, different design techniques and styles, which varied according to social organization, culture and especially the historical background, were created.
In the theoretical part, the styles of posters created in certain historical periods were analyzed. The designers were the main focus point and some of their works were introduced. The main purpose of posters was presented and their development throughout certain historical periods was explained. The composition of elements, color and font of posters with regard to the period of origin were analyzed. In this context, the reflection of posters on the topical issue of domestic violence was examined and attention was drawn to this problem through our own poster designs.
The practical part was carried out using Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Glyphs, FontLab and Microsoft Office, as well as a camera and a graphics tablet. Furtheremore, eye tracking technology was used to check the quality, usability and effectivness of the posters, with a special focus on examining which part of the poster attracts the most attention. In addition to the results obtained with the help of the device for tracking the eye movements, a survey (1ka) was carried out on the basis of which another set of data was collected to potentialy serve as a comparison. A series of five posters on the topic of domestic violence was created and the posters were made in their own way, while paying attention to the composition of elements, the choice of colors and typography.
