Many high school students think that their education process finishes at the end of their school studies. Nowadays, however, education is essential not only for personal growth, but increasingly also for professional growth. The educational choice is influenced by various internal (personal interests) and external (rewards) motivational factors.
This thesis deals with the analysis of high school students' motivation in a high school from the services field. At this high school, which elected to remain unnamed due to personal interests, students had different motivations for continuing their education. I looked at the programs they attended, how highly they evaluated their motivation to study further, what their motivation was for learning, and what factors either motivated or demotivated their decision to continue their education.
In the theoretical part of my diploma thesis, I studied both Slovenian and foreign literature on the topics of motivation, the theory of motivation, learning, education and the motivation to learn. These are factors that influence a person's career. I will also present motivational theories, factors of educational motivation and demotivation, and also factors of successful learning.
In the empirical part of my thesis, I conducted a survey in the form of a questionnaire given to 137 high school students. The results of the survey show that students are highly motivated and satisfied with their success in learning. The research shows that motivated high school students will choose to further their education at the Faculty of Administration, Ljubljana. I found that high school students have an intrinsic motivation to study because they want to acquire new skills for personal growth and development. According to the respondents, the main obstacles to the continuation of education were failure in exams and the laziness to learn.
This research is also important when considering the point of view of young people who choose to study, since it can contribute to increased motivation and satisfaction at school. I am, therefore, convinced that my work will stimulate interest in education and learning, which are becoming important factors in everyday life.
