The main topic of the paper is the effects of the road reconstructions on the transport accessibility of the municipality of Idrija. First, we present the physio- and socio-geographical characteristics of the area that affect the transport development of the municipality. The paper includes a review of the development of transport connections from the beginning of mining in the 16th century when the first transport routes were developed. Today, the main transport connections linked to the road traffic run along the corridors of these routes. The reconstructions of sections that connect the municipalities of Tolmin, Godovič and Žiri have changed the structure of the freight transport; however, they did not result in drastic changes in other means of transport categories. Our suggestions aim to reduce the effect of roadblocks and reconstructions through a better information system and planning and by searching for more durable solutions. In the end, we introduce plans for the future, which are based on the reduction of motor traffic and the promotion of public transport, cycling and walking.
