The evolution in automotive industry is driven towards reducing emissions, increasing economy and improving safety. To fulfil all the conditions, development of new improved materials was started. High Strength Steel (HSS) and Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) are materials with improved characteristics, which require advanced design methods. Classic methods of transforming standard steel therefore do not reach the requirements, which is why using computer simulations in the design process is key for development of the final product. By using computer simulations in program AutoForm R7, we have compared numerical and geometrical models of drawbeads for production of the inner part of B column inside the car. It is placed between front and rear door and it presents the key safety element in case of side crash and roll over. As a result, the computer simulation with numerical drawbead model is faster, but less reliable. Computer simulation with geometric drawbead model takes longer, but the whole design process is more accurate.
