In the diploma thesis, I have focused on the use of digital media and multitasking in learning. In the theoretical part of the diploma thesis, I explain the concept of ritualization in relation to communication. I also introduce the concept of multitasking and its effect on learning, attention and memory. The use of digital media is linked to the social relationship and the sense of belonging to a group. I deal with parenting styles in regard to their rules about the use of these media. Using the qualitative research method in interviews, I determined that the adolescents have a positive relationship with the digital media and view them as disturbing factors in learning and that they prefer to remove them while learning. Parents play an important part in their children’s use of digital media. Authoritative parents use practical rules; mainly they limit the quantity of time they allow adolescents to spend using digital media. The adolescents have a high level of self-awareness regarding how much time they spend with digital media; they much prefer to spend their leisure time with friends in person rather than communicate with them via social networks. Still, mobile phones play an important part in their socialization, as more than a half of the adolescents participating in the interviews talked about their use.
