On the basis of methodological criteria, considering main findings on how memory functions, the definition of rhyme and correlations between them, I am posing the question: what is the relationship between sound and meaning on one hand, and between memorization and comprehension on the other? The criteria have been tested with an experiment on selected poems. The analysed sample shows that (good) memorization depends on the comprehension of poems and their sound devices. Rhyme here works according to the principle of the selective mechanism. In cases where the level of comprehension is low or not shown in the survey conducted, it is inferred that the sound of words, influenced by rhyme, make (at least) memorizing possible.
