The diploma thesis deals with the increased emphasis on the importance of awareness of the present moment and the preservation of attention through the practice of mindfulness meditation with the increasing development of mobile technology and the increased spectrum and amount of use of the mobile phone. In the era of the digital revolution, a mobile phone helps people save their time and work, while it often presents an opposite effect on the individual, potentially causing an anxious factor that can present a disorder or cause a dispersion of attention, resulting in less efficiency in performing tasks. The mobile phone has become embedded in our everyday life to the point that it enters out daily activities and constantly interrupts our attention and awareness of the events at present. It goes without saying that people were not fully conscious and present before the emergence of digital technology and the mobile phone, but these skills are possible to develop through practicing mindfulness meditation. The diploma work aims to study the potential effects of practicing the techniques of mindfulness meditation to preserve the individuals’ attention and focus on the present. By conducting interviews with participants in the mindfulness meditation, I examined the contexts of both, their use and experience of using a mobile phone. Based on the samples of my interviewees, I found that there is a connection between practicing the techniques of mindfulness meditation and controlling the usage of the mobile phone, and, to some extent, the connection between an awareness of the ways and contexts of their use.
