The four chapters of diploma thesis present a complete renovation of the local newspaper called Savinjske novice. The first chapter presents the ideology of graphic design, its meaning, purpose and the designer’s approach to designing a product. Furthermore, it describes all the necessities a designer needs to understand in the context of designing a product to achieve a quality result. The second chapter defines the tools of graphic design: grid, typography, and the use of both. The last section additionally presents the field of identity and a holistic approach to corporate design. The experimental part of the diploma thesis introduces the reasons for the renovation of the local newspaper. The following chapter presents different stages in the process of renovation and basic elements (format, grid, and typography). The next section displays the outcome that was created during the design process. The closing chapter reveals the differences between the existing and updated version of the Savinjske novice.
