The role and understanding of women in the past few decades have greatly changed and is still changing. With this it also changes the role and experience of women with motherhood and maternity. The aim of this paper was to explore and present the social changes in the area of motherhood inside the span of two generations, what kind of maternity experience have women belonging to a specific age cohort, and how these experiences vary with the experience of their daughters. This paper is a qualitative research, since the main source of information remains narrative of women about their experiences of mothering and their subjective vision of this research field.
In the theoretical part I present some of the most important social changes that have affected the family life and its dynamics, also introduce the key, "natural" roles of women, who maintain very important in spite of this changes, and how strongly socially constructed motherhood is in the very essence of women’s life. In the research work I present the stories of the interviewed women, who through their telling show how strongly rooted is the idea of maternity as a naturally placed in the role of women, and particularly how deeply rooted remain structural differences that regard to sex. Interviewed woman with their telling and stories show that despite the many changes that have affected the different segments of family life, motherhood have changed the least.
