With the Machine directive 2006/42/ES, the European Union regulates the field of machine safety and demands that the products placed on the common European market by the producers are safe for users. The directive itself does not specify how to achieve its demands and the demands of harmonised standards. Its basic demands are presented in the first part of this Master's thesis, where we also outline its connection to the national legal system and the European mechanism for discovering potentially unsafe products. We present the implementation of the directive on the case of our machine for gluing magnets, where we demonstrate how to write the machine’s description, risk assessment, provide a list of the standards used, user’s manual, describe the process to ensure compliance, ES statement and CE marking. All the chapters in this part of the thesis are a part of machine’s technical file that provides a proof of compliance with the directive. We also present the use of harmonised standards ISO 12100, ISO 13849-1 when making risk assessment. We constructed tables and diagrams to facilitate and accelerate making of the technical file, even without the knowledge of the Machine directive.
